Keith Burgess

Keith Burgess is an award winning painter working primarily in oil. He has received numerous commissions and his work is widely collected. Though he began drawing and painting as a child, his formal art education began at Valdosta State University. He went on to receive a B.A. Degree from Georgia Southwestern State University. After college he began a long career as a graphic artist/illustrator for a major publishing corporation in Atlanta. Though he set aside painting during the early part of his corporate tenure, the urge to paint again lead him to pursue a fine art career on a serious level in the early 1990's. He then began studying with some of the Nation's top artists, attending classes and workshops in his spare time. In 2003 he left the corporate world to become a full time painter.
The artist resides in the north Georgia mountains and exhibits in galleries throughout the southeastern U.S. where he has been afforded many one-man shows. For a complete listing of these shows as well as current gallery representation please contact the artist.

Statement:
'I place myself in a long tradition of representational painters who have been inspired by the natural world around us. My painting style is grounded in late 19th century methodology, mainly Impressionism. I find in the landscape a kind of spirituality and truth. Painting has been a constant refuge from loss and transformation, and my way of coming to terms with my place in the world.
The best advice I ever received as an artist was to squint at my subject.'

Commissions:
Whether you are interested in a painting of a person, a place, your home, the view from your home, a pet, or your favorite thing(s), Keith will be happy to assist in turning your vision into a work of fine art which will become a family heirloom to be enjoyed by many generations.
The initial contact with the client includes a discussion of the client's needs and expectations for the project. Where portraits are concerned, photos may be taken*. The artist prefers to work from a combination of live sittings and his photos and can work from photos only (as well as photos supplied by the client), if the client prefers. At least one sitting may sometimes be necessary. The pose will be chosen from the photos. Delivery of the finished painting could take 1 to 3 months. A 50% deposit is due before painting or drawing is begun. There is a 20% discount for each additional subject. Framing, travel (excess of 100 miles), lodging expenses, and shipping are paid by the client. All paintings are executed on stretched or mounted Belgian linen unless otherwise requested.
Landscape commissions are also done from a combination of photos and 'en plein aire' sessions as well.
*All photos taken by the artist, preliminary sketches, or studies remain the property of the artist and the artist reserves the copyrights to these as well as the finished work.
